What is Lockdown?

Lockdown is an emergency protocol that sometimes disallows people leaving their households. The protocol can usually only be initiated by someone during a position of authority. Lockdowns also can be wont to protect people inside a facility or, for instance, a computer system, from a threat or other external event. Of buildings, a drill lockdown usually means doors leading outside are locked such nobody may enter or exit. A full lockdown usually means people must stay where they’re and should not exit to another building or rooms.

The confining of prisoners to their cells, typically in order to regain control during a riot.

History of COVID-19

World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared an outbreak of pyrexial respiratory illness of unknown etiology in December 2019 from Wuhan, Hubei province of China. Since its emergence, the disease his rapidly spread to neighboring provinces of China as well as 151 other countries mainly through international travel.

Currently, India has witnessed only imported cases of COVID-19 and limited local transmission from imported cases to their immediate contacts. If community transmission is documented in India, the testing of the strategy will undergo changes to evolve into the stage-appropriate testing strategy. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has released a list of Coronavirus testing labs/ sites across Indian states.

Current Testing Strategy in India

a] All asymptomatic people who have undertaken international travel:

  1. They should stay at home quarantine for l4 days.
  2. They should be tested only if they become symptomatic (fever, cough, difficulty in
    breathing, etc.)
  3. If the test result is positive, then they should be isolated and treated as per the standard protocol.

b] All contacts of laboratory-confirmed positive cases:

  1. They should stay at home quarantine for l4 days.
  2. They should be tested only if they become symptomatic (fever, cough, difficulty in
    breathing, etc.)
  3. If the test result is positive, then they should be isolated and treated as per the standard protocol.

c] Health care workers managing respiratory distress / Severe Acute Respiratory illness should be tested when they are symptomatic.

The list has been released by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), It is the apex body in India for the creation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research, is one of the oldest and largest medical research bodies in the world.
